Europe rethinks its 'safe haven' status - Yahoo! News

Europe rethinks its 'safe haven' status - Yahoo! News

Interesting that while our Senate is voting to add 200 million people to our population in the next 20 years and with virtually no thought and with no facts or figures to use to make an educated policy decision, Europe is re-evaluating their past decisions to allow immigration (on a far smaller scale than here in the USA) because of problems and issues.

Senate Immigration Bill Would Allow 100 Million New Legal Immigrants over the Next Twenty Years

Senate Immigration Bill Would Allow 100 Million New Legal Immigrants over the Next Twenty Years

Unbelievable!! The Senate wants to add 103 million, and possibly up to 200 million, additional people to our population over the next 20 years!! Yes, 20 years!! Think the schools are bad now? Water problems? Traffic? Crime? Ecology? And, guess what? We get NO say whatsoever! Kiss THIS America good bye.....

If enacted, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA, S.2611) would be the most dramatic change in immigration law in 80 years, allowing an estimated 103 million persons to legally immigrate to the U.S. over the next 20 years—fully one-third of the current population of the United States.

An Unnatural Disaster: A Hurricane Exposes the Man-Made Disaster of the Welfare State

The Intellectual Activist

"Public officials did not expect that the first thing they would have to do is to send thousands of armed troops in armored vehicle, as if they are suppressing an enemy insurgency. And journalists—myself included—did not expect that the story would not be about rain, wind, and flooding, but about rape, murder, and looting. "

But this is not a natural disaster. It is a man-made disaster.

Great read. I've been mulling over the exact same questions and coming tothe same conclusions the last few days!!

I'll been in floods, huricanes, huge blizzards at -50, tornadoes that wiped whole towns off the face of the planet but I never sat on my hands waiting for someone to rescue me. We jumped in and saved ourselves, our relatives, our neighbors, strangers....

I'm disgusted with what I've witnessed the last few days, really disgusted and ashamed. Why should I feel ashamed because a group of people acted like animals? Because I am an American and so, unfortunately, are they....

New Orleans bar keeps doors open through catastrophe - Yahoo! News

NEW ORLEANS, United States (AFP) - The bars of the Big Easy prided themselves on staying open come rain or shine but only one kept serving through the Hurricane Katrina crisis.

"We don't have any locks on the door," said Julie Sprinkel, a server at Johnny White's Sports Bar on the normally raucous Bourbon Street.

IEM Team to Develop Catastrophic Hurricane Disaster Plan for New Orleans & Southeast Louisiana

NOLA Disaster Plan Outsourced

"NOLA Disaster Plan Outsourced
Updated 3 September
The private firm charged with developing the New Orleans hurricane disaster plan identified the need for 1,000 shelters and said that they would need to be open 100 days (more than three months!). A press release asserts that "state resources are adequate to operate shelters for the first 3-5 days." After that, the problem was to organize replinishment from federal and other sources. The firm also "developed a transportation plan for getting stranded residents out of harm’s way."

Doesn't look like this 500 million was spent to wisely! !

Anatomy of raid rumors: Was chopper the start of it?

HoustonChronicle.com - Anatomy of raid rumors: Did helicopter start it?

As if the INS would ever get off of their dead asses and do their job!!!! Fat Chance!!

The panic that sent hundreds of illegal immigrants fleeing from their homes, jobs and schools in recent weeks may have been set into motion on March 23, when a developer and contractor surveyed their sprawling construction site from a white helicopter with green stripes -- the same colors as U.S. Border Patrol helicopters.

Yahoo! News - IBM to Export Highly Paid Jobs to India, China

Some workers are scheduled to be informed of the plan for their jobs by the end of January. After that they will be expected to train an overseas replacement worker in the U.S. for several weeks. The IBM workers marked for replacement have 60 days to find another job inside the company, likely to be a difficult task at a time when IBM is holding down hiring.

Torture of the people in Iraq

Yahoo! News Message Boards Top Stories

About Iraq and the torture of the people there before the war....

Human rights groups estimate that at least 290,000 Iraqis have disappeared since Saddam took power 34 years ago. Hussain was just a schoolgirl in Baghdad when the reality of life under Saddam hit home. She recalls riding on a school bus at age 13 and seeing a crowd gathered in the center of the capital, around bodies of men hanging from poles. "I remember the blue faces, the long necks," she said.

Al-Suwaij knows firsthand how even young girls were imprisoned for what seem to be trivial offenses. Al-Suwaij says she had a 16-year-old cousin who was beaten and tortured with electrical shocks for having written something against the government in her school notebook.
